Pathogenic bacteria are considered to be one of the biggest threats to global health in the future of mankind. Continuous population growth, increasing mobility, the growing number of foodborne illnesses and emerging resistance of bacteria against current antibiotic treatments are multiple challenges which urgently require breakthrough ideas and innovations in more rapid pathogen detection solutions to be brought to the marketplace.

NEMIS Technologies is developing diagnostic kits and solutions for accelerated microbiological detection in food safety, hospital and clinical applications and water treatment with the potential to set new market standards. NEMIS’ core AquaSpark™ technology allows faster, highly specific, efficacious, easy-to-handle and cost-efficient diagnostic tests.

The technology enables highly sensitive chemiluminescence probes for research and diagnostic applications: the AquaSpark™ molecules are 3,000 times brighter than standard commercially available products. This is leading to much faster time-to-results for diagnostic kits incorporating the technology thus reducing effectively important safety risks.

Nemis Solution

NEMIS diagnostic kits consist of tubes containing a bacteria-specific AquaSparkTM reagent and swabs.
Samples of potentially contaminated surfaces are taken with a swab (FLOQSwab™ for higher recovery swabbing). The swab is then introduced into an enrichment and measurement tube which is optimized for AquaSparkTM. A short incubation period precedes the release of the AquaSparkTM reagent within the tube. Presence of the targeted bacteria will be signalled by an almost instantaneous light emission which will be measured by a high sensitivity luminometer. The instruments required to perform the method (incubator and luminometer) are currently available off-the-shelf from selected suppliers, so no hardware development is required to develop NEMIS product portfolio, thus reducing development risk significantly.

Incorporated in January 2018, Nemis Technologies AG is a joint-venture between Biosynth and RAMOT, the Tel Aviv University business Engagement Center established to develop rapid and innovative diagnostic test kits based on the AquaSparkTM technology jointly developed and owned by Biosynth and Ramot.

The rights to the AquaSparkTM technology for microbiological applications have been exclusively granted to Nemis allowing us to design, develop - or offer the technology for development - and commercialize innovative and simple diagnostic solutions which are faster, specific, easy to use by untrained staff and with a low cost per test for food safety testing, hygiene management or hospital and clinical applications.
